My Charge 4 broke and so I just bought a Charge 5. I have spent hours trying to set up this stinking device and now the firmware update is needed and it stalls and will not update, and so this device is unusable. I hate Fitbit.

The firmware update is not actually needed. You got it set up eventually then, since asking for an update?

Same happened to me!!
My fitbit charge 5 broke after barely 4 months of use. They sent me a new one that just wouldn't set up! Exactly as you described. Now they want me to send it back so they will send me a replacement. (3rd try!) Honestly, I don't even want it anymore. I am so disappointed
