I attempted to unpaired and then pair again but now it doesn't recognize it to pair it. Not sure why.

I appreciate the information you've shared about your Charge 5 and your efforts troubleshooting this problem.
Just to confirm, you were not receiving text notifications on your Charge 5 or you were not able to see the screen (black screen)? In the meantime, please make sure to follow all the recommendations listed here in case you're still having trouble to set up your device.
