Charge 5 Bands will not release

I replaced the original plastic bands with Fitbit fabric bands. Note, not after market but Fitbit's own £29 fabric bands. These bands now refuse to budge and will not come off. Obviously I have followed the instructions but to no avail. Does anyone have experience of this issue or even better a fix?
