Charge 5 Crashing

I posted recently that I wasn't getting low battery notifications. Having followed the advice in the thread, I've realised that the problem isn't that battery being completely drained, but that the Charge 5 appears to be crashing. When I connect my Charge 5, I get the Fitbit logo as it boots up. I assumed that this was because the battery was completely drained, but I realised a couple of weeks ago that it isn't. On restarting, it seems to take the Charge 5 a few minutes to decide how much battery it actually has (the figure will keep changing for 5-10 minutes) but it usually has between 90%-40%. It's crashing every couple of days. This week was unusual in that the battery got low enough to generate an alert. The charge5 was puchased in December 2021 so isn't very old. My Charge 2 lasted for 4 years.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi, it's good to see you visiting the community forums for the first time, @ShelaghG.

Thanks for the information provided about this inconvenience with your Charge 5 and the troubleshooting steps that you already tried.

Before considering other options,  please complete a three pulse restart procedure using the charging cable:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times within 8 seconds, holding each press for about 1 second.
  3. Wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.
  4. If the device doesn’t restart, wait 15 seconds to try again.

In addition, please follow the steps listed here in case the battery is draining too fast and the recommendations in this article in case the device is not charging properly. Let me know if you continue to experience the same issue afterwards.

I've done that, but I don't see how that will fix things. When my Charge5 goes dead, and I attach it to the cable, I see the logo, as if it's booting up from scratch. At this point, it's booting up several times a week. It's died overnight again and booted up saying it has 92% battery. 2 minutes lates, it has 64 % battery. Then I restarted it, as per your instructions, and it has 85% battery.

The battery isn't draining too fast. The battery rarely gets to drain right down at all because I have to attach it to the charger to get it to boot up when it dies.

If so many people are having problems with the Charge5, I'm not sure I want a replacement. I might just bite the bullet and buy a Garmin instead.
