Charge 5 GPS connection isn't stable

I have my GPS set to 'Built-in' as that's the only option that I can get to work.  I make sure my battery's over 90% when I start my run or walk, I choose the activity before I actually start as I read 'it needs time to pick up GPS'.  I have the same three routes, sometimes GPS kicks in, sometimes not, sometimes part of the way and sometimes it logs my whole route?  It's tracking is quite odd, last year it had me running on water!  The distance and steps are never the same, and pace can go vary ridiculously. I was running with a partner last year, they had a Garmin - they're distance stayed more or less the same. I get the tall buildings and trees, clouds etc., but on a clear day, and on a route I have done many times, why does this change so much.  This is a useless device if you're trying to monitor your fitness and sets goals, absolutely no use when training for events.

Hi, @Chudders welcome, GPS settings on the Charge 5 have been the subject of many posts. In essence, the best setting is to have it on "Phone", this uses the phone's larger antenna & battery and I've always found it reliable in challenging conditions. How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device? - Fitbit Help Center provides details of the advantages & disadvantages of each setting.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply - the phone option didn't work at all for me - the only one that I got anywhere with was the 'Built In' option, but that has stopped again now.  I bought the Charge 5 as I didn't want to take my phone with me!
