I work out on an elliptical machine. I spent 40 mins comparing the "built in monitor to the Fitbit Charge 5 daat.
The fitbit was telling me my heart rate was about 60% of the actual value.
Is there some calibration required or why is this happening. Very frustrating as this was the main feature I was interested in.

Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with your Charge 5.
There is no process of calibration required for Fitbit devices. Before considering other options, please follow the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information and check the information mentioned here about other factors that could affect your heart rate reading, this has been useful to other users who have experienced something similar.
In addition, I recommend that you try restarting the device again using the three pulse restart method mentioned here below:
