Charge 5 battery dead

I got two FitBit Charge 5 devices about 13 months ago (in August 2022 to be precise). Since last week, I have started having a peculiar problem with both of them. When I connect them to the charger, the battery level goes from 0 percent to 99 percent during the charging cycle. That charging cycle happens the same way it used to earlier. It takes somewhere in the vicinity of two hours for the battery to go from 0 to 99 percent (one thing different though is that previously the battery would reach all the way to 100 percent; now it does not go beyond 99 percent). However, the curious thing is that - after two hours of charging - as soon as I disconnect the Charge 5 from the charger, the screen goes blank. Upon reconnecting it back to the charger, the battery level shows being back 1 percent! Basically, two hours of charging and the battery level going to 99 percent have no effect as soon as they are disconnected from the charger. I cleaned the charger and the FitBit devices themselves as instructed on FitBit website. I tried using both the chargers that came with these two FitBit devices. I did push the button on the charger three times with one second gap. I did all these but none of these are helping. Have these devices gone kaput/belly-up/conked out and there is no recourse left for me but to throw them away (my warranty period ended just about a month ago), or is there a resolultion to this problem. Thanks.
