Charge 5 battery drain potential fix

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Not sure if this is relevant to anyone else but my charge 5 was fine and then about a week ago the battery would literally drain in 1-2 hours and go flat. Tried all the reset options etc and literally made no difference.

However, I changed the watch face (maybe it’s related to a cache issue?) and it literally fixed the problem. Back to normal battery life.

Weird but fixed at least.

Thank you for posting this. I've had the same issue which started this week (29th July 2024). Tried everything suggested but nothing worked. Changed watch face and battery life seems to be OK now 🤞.

My fitbit charge 5 after clock face change seemed to be working regarding battery life for about an hour but it's suddenly dropped again. I've done everything suggested, checked for updates, restarted, restarted using USB plug button but nothing works. Only had it just over a year.

Hmmm.  Maybe you need to change the watchface *and* do a full reset for a more lasting fix? That link shows how to do a full reset.

FWIW  my clockface is "Target".  It's possible the specific clockface might be the problem too...

Best Answer

Thanks for sharing that.  What was the name of your previous clockface and what did you change it to?  Also, what is your firmware version?

I'm at firmware 1.188.58 and my clockface is Target.  I had to do a full reset a few weeks ago to fix the battery drain.  Didn't change the clockface at that time, it's been Target since I got the fitbit this past spring.

Here is how I did a more thorough reset:

Thanks, I'll give this a go when my watch is fully charged. My watchface
was target when I was having problems. Thanks foe your help.

Hope that works and please let us know if it works or not.  Sharing your version number is very helpful too.

Can you tell me if it made a difference if you used a watch face that provided singular stats or multiple stats?  Thanks for this, I'm going to give it a try, as mine just started draining (89% - 19% in less that 6 hours and 97% to 16% overnight)

Hello @Bath71 & @susanB1984

When my Charge 5 started having rapid battery loss, I restarted and recharged my device multiple times over several days. As soon as I saw a rapid drop in battery, I restarted my Charge 5 and put it on the charger until it was back to 100%, often doing this multiple times in a day. Eventually, this process got my device "unstuck" and the battery went back to lasting 6-7 days. Although there's no guarantee that this will work for you, it might be worth a try.

Unfortunately it hasn't worked. Thought it was OK but the battery life
started dropping too quickly again :-(. Have unpaired and taken off
bluetooth, restarted and paired again as suggested by someone but it's
already down to 91% after an hour or so 😞

Hi

I have carried out the more thorough reset but doesn't seem to have helped. Down to 91% after 1-2 hours :-(. My watchface is currently Ripple which I changed to from Target when first trying things. My firmware is 57.20001.188.58. Any more ideas? Typical I am just out of warranty. Thank you.

Thanks for letting us know that didn't work.  It still would be especially useful to know what version of firmware you have.  Do you know how to find your version?

Wow. Same as me.  My only other thought is maybe you are running an app or notifications that are causing a bad feedback loop over bluetooth to your phone.  I have notifications turned off (though I still get text and phone call info showing on the fitbit).

So sorry this hasn't worked for you.  I got the fitbit because I needed the ECG function and long battery life.  Hopefully mine will last a good while longer.

running 57.20001.194.91 firmware. It initially seemed like changing the
clockface worked, but it's draining really quickly again, 😟
