I’ve had my charge 5 for about a year now. all of a sudden the battery isn’t lasting as long. It used to last me a week. Now it’s drained within a few hours. Anyone else having this issue?

It proves someone is actually reading the thread. They just aren’t doing
anything about it.

Update: I have been sent a replacement watch, as my battery was draining plush heart rate sensors (green lights) stopped working. We’ll see how long this one lasts!

Same issues. Same response as everyone else. Mine just started this problem two days ago. Went to bed and it worked fine. Woke up and it was dead. Customer service had me restart it and said it would fix the problem but the problem still persists and they gave up after that suggested fix.

This wins #1 comment in my book LOL

Yep - I'm having the Same issue. Mine used to run a full 7 days before needing to be charged and now it drains in less than 6 hours. Two things have changed.

  1. I migrated over from my Fitbit account to my Google account.
  2. I upgraded the firmware on my Charge 5 to version 57.200001.188.58

I've shut off every notification, display, etc.. I've re-booted, hard re-booted, let it run completely down, disconnected/reconnected bluetooth. You name it and it's still useless to me now. I'm so frustrated! Support was useless.

My guess is that it was the firmware upgrade but of course they didn't want to talk about that.

RandyNM, I have not migrated my account, but that is the same firmware version I have.  I never explicitly installed it, so I don't know when it was installed (or if that coincided with these issues, as the phone app update did).  On chat with tech support, they said that when there's a new firmware update I'll see an update button on that device info screen of the phone app, so I have been checking just in case.  Not feeling optimistic, based on their responses, but willing to wait & see for a bit longer before I abandon fitbit for another maker.

I am very disappointing in fitbit right now. My charge 5 replacement is just over 1 year. Got some problems with it, but then it was working again. Til the battery drained in 3 hours from 100% to 0. And now nothing. It is dead. I give up. This is not the first time, that i had problems. Wil buy another brand.

The reams of Charge 5 posts with this same issue and many other issues all sound convincing, issues are clearly due to updated app and firmware versions that apparently aren’t playing well together. Very frustrating that Google/Fitbit has not owned up to this!

My Charge 5 battery drain issue started early Oct 2023. I feel my Charge 5 battery drain issue has something to do with latest Fitbit app version 4.00 update combined with my Charge 5 device firmware version 188.58. Fitbit app 4.0 was updated to my iPhone early Oct 2023. I don’t know when 188.58 occurred and my Charge 5 has not received firmware 194.61.

All was working great before early October. My iPhone Fitbit app was updated 3 weeks ago to version 4.01. No improvement unfortunately. I tried steps advised in other posts. No improvement.

My Charge 5 battery has been draining like crazy, lasting 4 or less hours. Totally throwing off my exercise tracking & routine, heart rate, calories & sleep tracking that I have come to rely due to battery drain and also not being able to wear my Charge 5 while it’s being charged.

Battery has gone dead in middle of my exercise several times, as well as in the middle of the night. I have to charge it 3-4 times a day as battery would drain, even go dead. When charged 100% at bedtime, battery goes dead 4 hours later.

The only thing I can think is that the gps setting reset to default after the recent update. If not that, then it has to be a bug they introduced in the update.

I’m having same trouble. Battery dying. Had to charge my charge 5 twice today. Completely dead.

I’ll be doing the same. A big company should have respect for it customer base if it wants to keep their loyalty

Welcome to the club.  I'm sorry to tell you that Fitbit has made it clear that they won't be fixing these sudden & drastic issues with the Charge 5.  If it wasn't so obviously caused by a bug and if the device were simply old, I could maybe accept that answer.  I'll be switching to a new brand going forward.

Mine gets better and then worse. It’s crazy how that works.

Hi. Where do you find last sync info?

@MomEMom  Yes, mine does too, actually.  Overall the battery now lasts long enough that I only need to charge it once per day, but usage varies more than expected based on activity.  Plus, mine still has a blank screen, no way to initiate exercise, no reminders to move, etc.  But it is recording & sending data to the phone app, where I log my exercises manually.  For now, until I get sick of it, finish researching alternatives, & replace it.

Last syn is displayed in the phone or computer app you use for syncing.  I use the Android app, where you would click o the icon at the top left to see your device info. There might also be info in your account on the fitbit site - not sure.

This just started for me this week. On wednesday evening it died suddenly, charged it up and then Thursday it wouldn't display anything. I fixed that by plugging it in and pushing the button a few times, but since then it's been draining quickly. I went from 5-6 days battery life to less than a day.

My device is 4 months old, firmware version 57.20001.188.58 and android app version 4.03. I don't know exactly how long I've been on these versions.

I contacted support who had me plug it in and verify it charges, reset it, wait a day to see it continue to drain, and have now offered a replacement. My device is 4 months old.

This is my 3rd fitbit device of 3 that's broken (I had 2 charge 4's that broke in different ways-one just stopped functioning entirely 7 months in, replaced under warranty. Replacement had a plastic band clip snap off 6 months later, I found a different type of band to use for a while until that one stopped functioning a year later). At least I'll get a replacement and can replace it again until July if needed but I'd highly recommend others keep away unless they make some change.

I agree the battery life on the Charge 5 is very poor

Same here, My Fitbit 5 worked fine and suddenly one day the battery went from 100% to 0 in one day and after this I needed to load the device at least ones a day. Very frustrating!. Earlier Fitbit 4 devices, two of them, broke less than a year, these had wristband issues. I will never buy Fitbit again!!
