Charge 5 battery draining quickly

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I charged my charge 5 overnight by lunch time it was dead. So i charged it again to 100% and within a few hours it was dead again!

My watch normally lasts 5 days minimum yet now it won’t even last a few hours! I have seen loads of people having the same issue with the Charge 5 so it must be something to do with an update!

Started happening to me last night as well. Normally I get 5-7 days out of a full charge. Last night around 10pm I see critical 7%. No email notification prior which I always get. Plugged it in to charge around 11pm. Fully charged and put it back on around 1am. At 4am totally dead again.

Hi there, @WeeJimmy. It's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm sorry to hear that the battery of your Charge 5 is draining quickly. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

As a first approach, please bear in mind that as all rechargeable batteries age, they deteriorate to some extent and an older device will need to be charged more often than a new one. The best way of minimizing this effect is to avoid deep discharges of the battery. To maximize the overall life of your Fitbit device's battery, ideally keep it between 20-80%.  Many people find that a daily battery boost works best ( e.g. giving it a 15 minutes charge while you are showering in the morning).

If you haven't done so yet, I'd recommend following the tips and recommendations provided here Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life?

@Bizeed It's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community Forums. I've seen you contacted our Support Team just right after posting here and they've already assisted you. If you have any questions regarding the outcome of your case, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team again. Since you already have a ticket open with them it'd be easier to continue the follow up on this matter with them directly.

There is nothing wrong with the battery! I have never had an issue with it until the latest update and like many people with charge 5’s are complaining of exactly the same issue. It’s highly unlikely that everyone with a charge 5’s battery would all degrade on the same day after updating!

@MarreFitbit Having the same issues as others post here - up until last Friday I was typically getting 5-6 days from my Charge 5. Since them it is barely lasting 2 hours on a full charge. Have tried all the suggested "fixes" - e.g. restarting phone, restarting charge 5, re-installing the app, factory reset of the charge 5, etc. No change.

Was there an update pushed out recently that might be causing this? Too many people seeing the exact same symptoms for this just to be an issue with an individual device.

Stephen.

No joy with support either - they claim that the battery is damaged and it has nothing to do with the recent update (what update???). As I am out of warranty by a few months the best they would offer was a 35% discount on a new tracker...

Best Answer

Same 35%, also only a few months out of warranty. This has been the pattern for my last 3 Fitbit's. I stay with them for the app and because I have 15 years of data that I can’t take anywhere else.

Best Answer
To add insult to injury, the 35% is off list price. As the Google Shop
prices are already discounted by 15% it is only effectively a 20% discount!

Thanks for your patronising and insulting response to @WeeJimmy's question. I had the same issue which is why I came to the forum. I've now realised what is a pointless waste of time that was. If you don't know why an issue has occurred, at least have the good grace to say so. Why bother saying you'll do your best to help and then trot out what Fitbit users already know? And why the exclamation mark? Do you find it funny that Charge 5's are having problems? The sudden rapid discharge problem is frustrating enough without you being alarmingly unhelpful.

It seems all fibit charges do this...I had an earlier model( fibit charge 2) and did the same thing. Upgraded to the Fibit  Charge 5 when it was released. That one only lasted 5 months. Received a replacement from fibit, and now it does not hold charge and it won't charge

I have the exact same issue.  Mine drains completely in under an hour.  Not kidding.

My wife had this issue back in April where she had to charge it every day.  Now hers seems fine and mine has the issue.  We did nothing to hers.  They were bought in June 2023.

Like many other respondents, I am have the similar issues. a few days ago, I had the battery draining issue. I've recharged and watched it drain within hours rather than several days which is what it previously was doing. Given the number of complaints on this forum, it's ridiculous to suggest this is normal battery degradation considering so many are affected simultaneously following an update. Previously, after yet another firmware update, users - myself, included - experienced numerous issues related to the charge 5.

So, the issues I've experienced this time around are:
- battery doesn't hold a charge even after being fully charged. Drains within hours.
- the time starts falling behind as it seems to de-sync with my phone/the app after a time
- device randomly restarts itself throughout the day

I've tried the usual three button presses to reset, full reset on the device itself, and nothing seemed to work. Disconnect/forget from my device and reconnect - still no joy. I've resorted to a full factory reset, and while today, the battery had held out (but is still draining faster than previously), I once again experienced the time falling behind/de-sync, failure to sync, and random restarts. I'm currently showing that I'm on v 188.58 and I understand there is another firmware update later than this, but it hasn't come through for me. Are there any further updates, considering the number of individuals experiencing these issues?

From what I understand, the battery is not replaceable.
