Charge 5 battery is draining too quickly

My charge 5 purchased 13 months ago suddenly started to act up- the red/ green light in the back wouldn't stop glowing, and the battery dies after few hours. Tried restarting through the charger and the setting... Nothing helps. This is my third Fitbit in four years and definitely the last one! What a scam!

Hi there, @Jana-unhappy. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear the battery of your Charge 5 is still draining quickly. I understand how you must be feeling, I will do my best to help you!

As a first approach, I'd recommend to follow the recommendations listed in this article to improve or extend battery life.  There are a few features that would make the battery drain faster than usual, even in one day. Some of these features are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 days when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Tracking SpO2 (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

If this doesn't apply to you, another step that has been helpful for other users having battery draining problems is the three pulse restart procedure using the charging cable. Nevertheless, since you mentioned you already tried that, please confirm that you performed the restart as described below:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times within 8 seconds, holding each press for about 1 second.
  3. Wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.
  4. If the device doesn’t restart, wait 15 seconds to try again.

Hi thank you for your prompt response.

I checked the tips you posted and they do not apply. The battery issue literally arose overnight, I didn't change any settings on my device. First I noticed that the red/green light on the back doesn't go off followed by drained battery so I assumed those are connected.

As I mentiones I restarted my device using the charging cable following the instructions for restart. So far it doesn't seem to have any impact on the battery. I also updated the app, but do not see any button for updating the device (pink button as your other post suggests).

I am having the same issue. Charged it yesterday and this morning it was dead and had been overnight. Can't get it to charge nor restart.

It is an inherent issue. Fitbit replaced mine 2 times over a year and yet same issue recently. Battery from 100% to blackout in a day! Not buying any of their products.

This has just happened to me too. Charged mine overnight and not even a full 24 hours later the battery is dead. Very sus, and I've already done all the stuff to preserve battery life.
