Charge 5 battery life

Hey I upgraded from my Charge 2 to a Charge 5 last week.

I love the device.... However.... When I first got it the battery wouldn't last at all, I mean I was charging it twice a day. After a few frustrating days I took to some online forums. After reading up I tried uninstalling the SPO2 app. This definitely helped, but I'm still going from 100% down to 20% in 24hrs on a day with no runs or gps use.

My Charge 2 would easily last longer than a week even being years old.

Seeing as this Charge 5 is advertised as having a 7 day battery, I'm wondering if I got a defective device?

I’ve contacted support about this for over a month and keep getting told it’s a software issue that they’re “working on.” I also think I have a defective device but they’re giving me such a hard time about it. If you contact support, I hope you have better luck than I did.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @josephkchavez.

I appreciate all this information that you've shared about the inconvenience that you've been having with your Charge 5.

If you haven't done so already, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleIn addition, try to perform a restart following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end if the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

As you mentioned, the battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Using an Sp82 clock face (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

In addition, keep in mind the team is aware of battery drain issue affecting some Charge 5 devices in which the built-in GPS chip may remain active after ending a GPS-enabled exercise and they've working on an update to fix the issue. In the meantime, it is recommended to try a three pulse restart. Please note the following:

  • If you use GPS to track your exercise, use the Phone GPS setting on your tracker to preserve battery life. For more information, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?
  • We’ll work to resolve it and hope to have a fix soon. Be sure to keep your Fitbit device and app up-to-date to ensure you receive the quickest resolution.

If you already tried all the steps shared in the forums, I recommend that you continue the communication with the Customer Support team for further assistance with this, as not all battery short life problems are related to this specific issue with GPS, but some users do have this problem. Click here to get connected

Hope this helps, I'll be around.
