Greetings --- my out of warranty charge 5 now has a black screen with a steady red light. The charge vibrates when connected to the charger. After reading the post of others it appears I am out of luck. I need to contact Google for a refund of my recently renewed premium membership?

Please try syncing your tracker with the Fitbit app.
Also, please change the clock face as instructed here: How do I change the clock face on my Fitbit device?
If your device still can't turn on the screen, restart as instructed below:
Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app. Open the Settings app, restart device > restart.
If your device isn't responding:
Plug your device into the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
Press the button on the flat end of the charger three times, pausing for 1 second between each press. Then, wait 10 seconds or for the Fitbit logo to appear.
If after performing the steps listed above the device is not working yet, please feel free to contact Support following the prompts.
