Charge 5 - dark screen & discharging

+ 2 days ago, the screen turned black, but the Charge 5 still recorded
+ despite being charged more than half before going asleep (symbol showed "grey" but was still charged further), during last night to device turned off
+  charging today helped to get back to measuring again, but screen is still dark
+ change of clock faces and restarting the device - both did not help (both 3 times)
-> ISSUES: (I) screen ...as with other users plus (II) battery life time

Good luck!  Unless you fitbit is within the warranty window you'll be lucky to get a discount on a replacement fitbit.  This seems to be a universal issue with the charge 5 which FitBit is dodging with the warranty for those of us who have had the device for longer than a year, in my case barely 15 months!

After back and forth via email they left me high and dry.  I won't buy FitBit again.  If the issue wasn't so wide spread I'd totally get them using the warranty line they are feeding me but given the fact that I'm not alone reporting the issue I'd expect they'd stand behind their product.

Your product failed prematurely and is not a quality device. Please let me know where to send the defective product for recycling or disposal. 

 

I will not be buying another Fitbit product. Your product has not performed as expected and I will not give you anymore money for faulty products.

 

Please note that I was an original FITBIT user when I purchased two (2) the first generation pedometers in 2011.  Those products worked for over 5 years. Since 2022, I have spent over $300 in Fitbit products (for myself and as gifts) and software subscription services and your device has now failed in less than 18 months. 

Furthermore, as your parent company Google is responsible for this policy, I plan to end my business connections to Google as well. I will be canceling both of my business accounts and associated activity - over $500 per year.

 

My money will go to a purchase of Apple Watch or Garmin product.

Agreed, they offered the same 35% to me as well.  Based on this forum, they have a LARGE QUALITY ISSUE.

My Charge 5  product failed prematurely and is not a quality device. Please let me know where to send the defective product for recycling or disposal.

I had the same issue with this black screen - completely dead after recent firmware upgrade.

It will fail after 17 months.  no warranty support

Pretty appalling. My discharges after 45 minutes. I sent into the support line, by the time I tried to do all of the things they recommended while it was charged and now that I've replied............ Sorry, you took too long so we have closed your case, not happy 😠

Was your Charge 5 still under warranty?  Mine is out of warranty so I got only the 35% discount offer.

Has anyone gotten an offer of free repair of their Charge 5 or a cost estimate to repair it?

I had a 2 year warranty under the Costco Chase credit card. I bought the Fitbit at Costco. I highly recommend if you like Fitbit buy your next one at Costco. Confirm that the warranty coverage hasn’t changed since this dark screen issue started. I love Costco credit card warranty coverage. The extra cost has been worth it over the last decade for a variety of Costco electronic products.

Hi,

they had asked me to return the faulty device and now ... replaced it.

As it had taken too long (and occurred already too often) I am now with a different vendor.

Wishing you lot's of fund - w/o any interruptions
