Charge 5 distance tracking accuracy

I received my new Charge 5 Fitbit watch today. Eagerly, I got it set up and charged up, Then I thought I'd take it for my daily walk and see how it worked. I walked a 4-mile walk (verifiable) only to have the watch tell me the distance was 3.3 miles. Wow! Not even close! I am required to use this device for my cardiac recovery program but the discrepancy between the distance walked and the distance recorded on the watch makes the device utterly unreliable.

Hello @jheld  Welcome to the community, it’s nice to see you around!

I understand you have a situation regarding the distance your Charge 5 tracked.

Fitbit technology uses a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps, which will be taken into consideration when calculating distance, also, make sure that you wear your device correctly, either on top of your wrist or in the clip. Also, I recommend you to use GPS to track an activity, in case you are not doing it already, that will improve the accuracy of your distance tracked.
