Charge 5 false active minutes

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My new Charge 5 has recorded active minutes while I am sitting working at my computer both yesterday and today. This gives me no confidence in its accuracy. Yesterday, 41 active minutes were recorded over a roughly 50 minute period, including two 2 Zone minutes.  Today, 45 active minutes over a roughly 70 minute period, although that did include about 10 minutes before I sat down at my computer.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @JThyme

I appreciate the information provided about this issue with your Charge 5.

Let me know if you've experienced this problem again or if it happened only one time. In the meantime, please make sure that you've tried restarting your device using the charging cable:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times within 8 seconds, holding each press for about 1 second.
  3. Wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.
  4. Note: If the device doesn’t restart, wait 15 seconds to try again.

You can find more information in this article on how Active zone minutes are earned.

Welcome to the Community forums, @Hiam-ghanem1968.

Thanks for all the details provided about this problem you're experiencing with your Charge 5.

Keep in mind the algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement, such as working or cooking, you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats.

Before considering other options, and if you still consider the steps are not accurate, please make sure that you've tried the restart procedure as described in this article, then check if you continue to experience the same behavior. In the meantime, you can find more useful information about the accuracy of Fitbit devices and how to adjust your stride length and dominant hand settings here

Thank you for your information in regards to the false step count.
I did use the restart button and it’s working fine since. It was off by almost 3000 steps so I think it was necessary to use the restart button option. I haven’t had a problem since and I’m very happy with the Charge 5.
Thank you for sharing the information with me.
