Charge 5 review

After having my Fitbit Charge 5 for a week now. I would have to say I would give this product a 3 out of 5. Mainly because the battery life is so poor. I have had to removed all the features I could. Turn off the heart rate monitor. Set GPS to phone only. Manual wake. Dim display. When fully charge before bed. I wake up and the battery is from 100 to 80. And that's in 5 hours. So yes for me. Battery life is bad. What I do like about it. The display is nice. It's bright even on dim, the colors are great and it's easy to use. Navigation through the screen is also nice and easy. Very responsive with little to no lag. I like the new alarm set up where you need to swipe and tap. I feel like helps me get up rather just pushing a button and falling back a sleep. I think the water mode is a smart addition but would have been nice for better water resistant the. 50 meters. Still that's good enough for me since I don't swim. I like the band as well. Light weight. Hardly notice it's there. Why I wear it still in stead of my charge 4 despite the battery and everything I can't use is for the display. Just really nice to have to look at

Hi, welcome to the Community forums, @Bear0786

I appreciate all the information and feedback that you've provided about your experience with the Charge 5 so far. It's good to read about the good and bad with this device.

Regarding the problem you mentioned with the battery, it seems that you already followed most of the steps provided in this article to improve battery life in general. In addition, keep in mind the team is aware of battery drain issue affecting some Charge 5 devices in which the built-in GPS chip may remain active after ending a GPS-enabled exercise and they've working on an update to fix the issue. In the meantime, it is recommended to try a three pulse restart. Please note the following:

  • If you use GPS to track your exercise, use the Phone GPS setting on your tracker to preserve battery life. For more information, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?
  • We’ll work to resolve it and hope to have a fix soon. Be sure to keep your Fitbit device and app up-to-date to ensure you receive the quickest resolution.

If you already tried all the steps shared in the forums, I recommend that you continue the communication with the Customer Support team for further assistance with this, as not all battery short life problems are related to this specific issue with GPS, but some users do have this problem.

See you around.

After turning off the heart monitor the battery significantly improved. So much so that from 9 am to 9 pm the battery only lost 4%.

@Bear0786 Thank you for sharing this update!

Even though your battery life has improved, you should be able to use the heart rate feature before without seeing a dramatic decrease on battery life. If you continue to experience the same behavior after all the steps suggested, I'd still recommend that you continue the communication with the Customer Support team for further assistance.

See you around.
