Charge 5 screen blank

My Charge 5 will sync with my mobile and appears to function in general but the screen is always blank.  I tried the 3x button push to reset and the Charge 5 responded by vibrating twice but the screen is still blank.  Totally blank, always. Tried resetting about ten times,

loading a new clock face : nothing.

Was this after updating the firmware?
