Charge 5 screen won't swipe

Clock face on my Charge 5 is not bright enough. Bigger problem:  it won’t let me Scroll up down left or right. Stuck on equivalent of Home Page. So cannot get to Settings to change Brightness or anything else. Grrrrrrr

Hi there, @PaulinBBFL. Welcome to the forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5. I understand how you must be feeling. 

 

Please restart your Charge 5 as suggested here How do I restart my Fitbit device? If the restart doesn't work try to change your clock face. If this fixes the issue, you can change your clock face back to the original clock face. 

 

If the screen is still dim after trying the above, please check if your Charge 5 is in sleep mode. When sleep mode is on:

 

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders are muted.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • The screen stays dark when you turn your wrist. To wake your tracker, firmly tap the screen twice.
  • The sleep mode icon illuminates in quick settings.

 

To turn off this feature, swipe down from the clock screen. Tap a setting to adjust it. When you turn off a setting, the icon appears dim with a line through it. For more information, see How do I navigate my Fitbit device

Thanks for your suggestions, but I tried all those things that I can... (since I cannot swipe in Any direction, I cannot attempt those parts of your suggestions that require swiping.) Oh well....

Hi, I am having a similar problem with my charge 5. I can only swipe up but not across. I have reset & change watch faces but nothing has changed.  Fitbit only 7 months old.

I have the same problem. 

I have unpaired the device from the app and reconnect. I have restarted from the button on the cord but I can't press any of the buttons to restart in the menu or even the cancel button. The swipe left and right has disappeared all together. No matter what clock face I have tried, it doesn't help. I have even turned in and off all the settings I could find.

Mine was still under warranty so contacted customer service & was given a replacement

Mine just started doing this today when I went to use the timer function. I changed the watch face as suggested and that didn't work, so I then opened the App and disconnected the watch from the App and reconnected. This worked momentarily, then it refroze between pages when swiping, so I had to reset it, so frozen again. My watch is relatively new after the Charge 4 was replaced under warranty with the common screen being dull issue. Looks like another replacement under warranty.

I’m also having this problem. First I was getting the Add Card notification and I couldn’t swipe in any direction to get that off the screen. I tried all the resetting steps and haven’t gotten that notification again (yet). I tried changing the clock and no matter which clock I choose i still can’t swipe in any direction. I can see the watch is still tracking everything but I can’t access anything on the watch except the main screen. To get my screen to come on I have to tap it real hard repeatedly. I’m bummed out because I really love my Charge 5 and I’m pretty sure it’s out of warranty but it’s basically useless now 😞

I’ve had same issue. Charge 5 suddenly wouldn’t let me swipe. Tried change clock face, resetting, the works. Got a replacement last fall. Now my replacement has decided it won’t charge. Cleaned the watch back and charger prongs as instructed. Done with Fitbit at this point. Not going to get a third Charge 5 in less than 2 years

I have done everything they want you to try and it still wont swipe. I'm so disappointed with Fitbit I have been a customer for 4 years and have bought fitbit for my grandson and daughter in law. My first fitbit worked of nearly 4 years and now my Charge 5 is nothing but a watch and there are much better watches out there. Already ordered another brand for half the price and great reviews. It seems to me that Fitbit could care less about customer service and the only way to let them know is to stop buying!

I emailed customer service, took them 2 days to confirm under warranty & had a replacement in less than a week.

your lucky you had warranty. Mine is 16 months old and won't swipe and
FitBit could care less!

My Charge 5 just stopped swiping left or right but it still scrolls up and down

Tried restarting under settings and by connecting to charger and pressing button 3 times

I've also tried changing the clock face several times but no luck

Its now just a digital watch with a bad battery 😞 

Out of warranty

Any Ideas Please Help!

That's what they do. Make cheap crap that breaks just after the 1-year warranty and make you buy another one. I had the same issue and they gave me a discount WOW a whole 35%. What happened to the 50%. 

3 out of 4 of my family has had to buy new devices because they quite working within just days or a few months after the warranty, We are done with Fitbit.

Just purchase my third and last replacement.

Time to move on from Fitbit to a real company that cares about their customers. Garmin will be my next purchase.

I don't understand why they don't just upgrade the software/app
If i could control the functions of the watch with the app the poor
hardware wouldn't matter as much
Fair enough the data may not be accurate but at least i could record my
workouts at a minimum
I think Garmin may be worth the extra few quid

Same issue.  Also get the add card.

I could finally get to the clock face, swiped to settings and restarted the device.  Nothing changed.

 

plugged it into my charger, did the reboot sequence…nothing changed.

 

I can swipe up and down but not left to right

I am having the same problems. I can’t swipe up or down, and using the reset sequence on the charger does absolutely nothing. Sometimes the face appears dim and pastel colours rather than the usual ones for a few seconds. How can I reset if the rest sequence isn’t working?

Can't change anything.  Won't swipe and almost to dim to see.  Fully charged. Restarted 5 times. This was already replaced once.  Stopped working after a month and now the replacement has been a month. PLEASE HELP 🙏
