Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @SunsetRunner. I'm sorry to hear that your new Charge 5 records too many steps on your non-dominant arm.

Have you checked help article: How accurate are Fitbit devices? Have you also compared your current tracker with another device or when have you noticed it has recorded too many steps?

Keep on visiting the forums.

I just bought a Fitbit Charge 5 four days ago and the step counter is so immensely inaccurate that it doesn’t make sense. I have tried adjusting my stride length. I tried restarting the Fitbit. I tried removing and then adding the device again. Nothing has worked.

Last night, when I was asleep, I somehow walked almost 30 steps. Between going to sleep and when I got up and walked to my dresser to take the watch off before I got in the shower, I’d amassed over 100 steps. My dresser is about four feet from my bed. What is it counting? Yesterday, it recorded 7,234 steps, compared to 4,297 steps on my much more accurate iPhone 11. If my phone is more accurate, why do I have this $120 clock on my arm? I already have a very nice watch, and that isn’t why I bought a Fitbit.

If there weren’t so many articles and requests on this forum from folks who have had their steps miscounted, I’d ask for suggestions. I think a massive product recall should take place.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. It was telling me that I had amassed 2500 steps before I ever got to work. Then it's calorie adjuster tells me I should take it way too many calories, like 3400 daily when I walk, which is obscene. This product doesn't do what it's meant to do. It's not worth $30, let alone the $130 I paid for it. Deep deep buyers remorse. I got a step counter app on my phone and keep it in my pocket when I walk. I'm returning the Fitbit. Terrible product.

I have the exact same problem. It's barely 11Am and I haven't gone out of my house yet and it has counted 8K steps and 6KM!!!!

If there is a way to fix, please guide me to do so, or confirm the issue so I can return the device please.
