No, you cannot have multiple instances of the fitbit app on your phone, and you cannot have two recent fitbit devices attached to the same app.

The only way around it is to keep swapping devices in your app.

I need the previous device HR4 to wear while charging the new device to continue tracking steps. HR1 & HR2 & HR3 didn't have this issue it started with HR4 dropping HR3 & HR5 dropping HR4. Currently I have to wear my HR1 while the new watch charges but would rather wear a newer model for better tracking

Some people just let tracker charge while showering and find that nearly sufficient to maintain steady state.  Or even sometime when you know you are going to be sitting still for 15 minutes.   There is no need to make charging a 100% affair.  Maybe 15-20 or so minutes a day is enough to keep it going.  In fact keeping the battery mid-range is probably better than letting it get low, then fully charging it.

I charge it every 7-8 days, so it takes a couple of hours.  that makes my options sit and do nothing for a couple of hours, lose tracking, or wear an old fitbit.  with the prices rising it doesn't make sense that the last model is untrackable after a year or 2.  if this is the company policy going forward then this will be my last fitbit.  there is lots of competition now and I'm sure others will be more accommodating.

As I said before, instead of charging 2 hours every 8 days, you could charge 10-15 minutes every day if you can find that much time when you are not active, but your choice.
