The screen on my watch pulses a very bright white screen when activated. Sometimes it will flicker the clock fase but soon after flicker out. I tried the 3 pulse reset to no avail. I also tried to change the clock face but was unable to do so. I've only had the watch for about 6 months and got it as a gift.

To better assist you, please make sure you've restarted your Fitbit device as suggested here How do I restart my Fitbit device?.
Regarding the clock face, why did it not work? Did you get any error messages?
If the above doesn't work, as our last resort, I'd suggest performing a factory reset by following the steps below (please make sure that your Charge 5 is no longer paired to your phone's Bluetooth before performing this step):

Sorry to see you're having issues with your Charge 5.
Since you've already tried the recommended troubleshooting steps, I suggest you contact Fitbit support. They will likely walk you through the same troubleshooting steps that you've already done. Once they confirm that none of the troubleshooting steps return your device back to normal operation and that it's still in warranty, they should send you an offer to replace the tracker/pebble or a discount on a different device. Note: the discount is on the full price even if the device is on sale in the Fitbit store.
