Since I cannot comment on the existing posts on this subject I want to add that I went nuts trying to deal with this problem and it wasn't until I spoke with someone on Chat that I found how to actually restart the device. Everywhere I read it says connect charger to its cable and on the connector there is a button that you press 3 times within 8 seconds. The critical think is they are giving you 8 seconds because each press has to be held for about a second. So a quick 3 presses does nothing. Just want that on the record since I could find it nowhere.

Sorry to see that you weren't able to find the proper instructions on how to restart your Charge 5 using the charging cable.
For your future reference, there is a library of Fitbit help articles, including one that has the instructions for restarting the different Fitbit models (<-- click link).
