Charge 5 syncing and battery issues

My charge 5 is out of warranty.  It has had trouble since the update in summer - when the app was reduced.  The battery data changes dramatically and it gets a black screen frequently when it isn't low.  Since the December update it has gotten much worse.  I have tried restarting (I now restart multiple times a day) and loading different clock faces (I've seen a lot of them).  When it goes black I put it on the charger and it wakes.  Frequently the battery percentage is dramatically different from the app.  When I restart the charge on the charger the percentage changes again.  It sometimes is higher and sometimes lower.  When it syncs with the app it changes again - and so does the app.  Usually this is not the same number as either previous numbers.  I've uninstalled the app and reinstalled it.  Since then it has turned off when I sync it.  I assume this is because Google isn't supporting iOS very well - or maybe not.  I've looked at the charge 6 but am wary of a company that is so unresponsive to so many problems - and I've seen the same complaints about the charge 6 out of the box.  Does anyone have a solution?  Does anyone use the tracker without the app successfully?  I'm happy to dump the useless monthly sub.  I'm also looking at other trackers and would love suggestions of some similar to the charge.
