Charge 5 - weird charging screen!

I’ve searched for ages and can not find an answer. Updated my moms Charge 5 with the latest firmwar wi th her iPhone 10.  But it only charges to 48% (approximately) and when charging the screen has a colored yellow border all around it in a square shape with the percentage in the middle. Is that normal? I can’t find a matching case anywhere with the same issue. 

previously the border was all in red and wouldn’t charge at all but come on..  as soon as you put the watch on even ta 48% it dies! what am I doing wrong here?

Thanks for all the details provided about this issue with your Charge 5.  

If possible, could you please share a picture of the charging screen you mentioned so we can take a look and further investigate? I do see a yellow/orange border on my Charge 5 that surrounds the battery percentage, but that is a normal charging screen. 

In the meantime, make sure that you've also completed the three pulse restart procedure using the charging cable, as described here. If the battery is only charging to 48%, I also recommend that you follow all the steps listed in this article. Let me know if the battery is also draining in a few hours or what exactly are you experiencing with the device.
