So disappointing that my charge 5 has crapped out and won’t charge. I’ve read online this is happening to others too. Did anyone get a new device? Is it time to switch to Apple Watch?

Welcome back to the Fitbit community, @MissyB70!
Sad to hear that your Charge 5 isn't working as expected. As there are many possible reasons why your device isn't charging, please have a look here and check each point mentioned:
Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I’ve done all suggested troubleshooting. I have a Fitbit solely bc of heart complications. Now I have no watch to assist with continued heart monitoring. I hardly slept last night as I have anxiety about going without this. I need a replacement immediately. This is no joke.

Thanks for your fast feedback, @MissyB70!
As you've mentioned that you have tried all possibilities to fix issues with your Charge 5 without success, I'd suggest contacting Fitbit support to get further assistance:
If you're having serious issues concerning heart health, I have to add that your Charge 5 cannot replace regular examinations to keep an eye on those, even though your device does offer a monophasic ECG that is approved as a medical device in some countries.
But I understand that wearing your Charge 5 gives you a certain level of security in everyday life, because the moment I returned to Fitbit was when I was diagnosed with an artery dissection and associated hematoma. And so, as one of roughly 10 percent who didn't bleed to death internally within the first 7 minutes, I clutched at every straw.
