I don’t understand why I have to open the app every day to sync my Fitbit. If I don’t, I don’t receive notifications. Anyone else having this problem?

You don't have to actually open and close it every day.  You can just leave it open in the background without actually looking at the app in the foreground.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
