Why doesn’t the fitbit app automatically update STEPS from the Charge 5?

I have to constantly “Massage The App” to get it to update from the Charge 5!

It’s never a simple process.

WHY?

Hi Talathas, Thank you for your suggestion! I have done most of them many times recently, yet I will try again. Steps are the only thing at issue. Everything else syncs most of the time. I do have Notifications turned on for the app. The way I get steps to sync once I display them is to flip back to yesterday, then flip back to today. Then it works for a while. When I notice that it has stopped I repeat that process.

Welcome back to the Fitbit community, @CareyS!

Sad to hear that you're having an issue with automatic syncing your Charge 5.
Do you get notifications on your device? If not, your Fitbit app might not be running in the background. To correct this, please set your Fitbit app's permissions to do so. Otherwise you'll hopefully find help here to get things fixed:

Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi there, @CareyS. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and sharing the details about the issue with your Charge 5. I understand where your concern, is coming from. We're here to help you!

If the issue persists after following @Talahthas' recommendations, please try the steps below in the order listed:

  • Unpair your Fitbit device from your phone's Bluetooth and Fitbit app.
  • Unpair other Bluetooth devices that you may also have paired to your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. This can help to prevent connectivity issues or Bluetooth interference.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
  • Set up your Fitbit device.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Fitbit device.
  • Once your Fitbit device is paired and syncing, please proceed to set up your other Bluetooth devices to your phone again.

With the steps above, what I want you to do is to pair your Charge 5 first to your phone's Bluetooth settings before any other Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.
