Hello! I have had my Fitbit for just over a year. There is a red light on the back, and it will not turn on at all. When I plug it in to the charger, it vibrates, but there is no fitbit logo, and the screen remains black. Even after charging all day. Please help.

Sad to hear you're having issues with your Charge 5. As a first attempt to get things fixed I'd suggest restarting it. Before doing so you should make sure you've synced your device to not lose any data tracked so far. Next please closely follow these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:

1.) Connect your Charge 5 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a reliable power source.
2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).
3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.

I'd like to point out that it sometimes requires more than one attempt to restart Charge 5. So, before throwing the towel, please give it another try.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hello there, @Viewmnt. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5.

As a first approach, please follow @Talahthas' tips and recommendations.

If the restart doesn't work, please make sure that your Charge 5 is charging properly by following the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

I did as you asked, and reset my device using the charging cord button and waited for the fitbit logo appeared each time. Yay for there being anything on the screen. Unfortunately that is where the good news stops. The logo never disappeared from the face. It stayed the same logo display. And there is still a red light on the back. I hope there are more steps. I tried to reply to the email, but the “recipients inbox is full and cannot accept any more”.

Thanks for your feedback, @Viewmnt, although I would have liked to hear something different.

As a next step I'd recommend letting the battery of your device completely drain to the point where your Charge 5 will shut down. Then please give it a full charge which will take considerably more time as usual. If your device won't charge at first attempt, please have a closer look at what @MarreFitbit has mentioned above.

I did as they asked, and let it drain fully, and then recharge it. It got super hot, and now is completely dead. No lights at all. Expensive paperweight.

I did all the things you asked me to do. And after completely draining it, and letting it charge, it got super hot and is now worse off and dead. It is a very expensive paperweight. I do not think I will buy a fitbit again. This is the second one that has died in a year. Super disappointed.

Sad to hear that, @Viewmnt

This sounds as if your device has issues with it's battery and/or the charging electronics. In this case I'd suggest to contact Fitbit support for further assistance:

My 4th fitbit just bit the dust.   My charge 5 randomly reboots and gets stuck on the logo.  Eventually it will lose all charge and will reboot when plugged in.   There is a good chance it will get stuck again.   After about 6 hours there is about a 50% chance it bore normally.   I'll have about 6 hours of normal use before it goes back to the logo screen.

This is my 4th fitbit in 4 years.   Seems like they have designed failure at about a year.   Since the warranty is only 30 days (way to stand behind your product), I am only offered a discount (that makes it cost normal retail)  to get another fitbit that will die in a year

Tried many times, won't be buying Fitbit any more.

Hi,

I had the exact same problem and almost given up trying to fix it. However, I gave it a go one more time. There was an update button on my fitbit app and I tried updating it. Once the update was completed, all issues had resolved. The screen is working again as well as the charging.

Hoping it will work for you.
