Do I have to tap to check the time on the charge 5?  My previous fitbit only required the rotation of the wrist.

Hello @SFS72

Just  set your screen wake to auto to see your screen with a rotation of your wrist. On the clock screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to access quick settings tap Screen Wake to Auto

😀Please let me know if that answers your question

Hello @SFS72

You can set up the Charge 5 to show the time when you turn your wrist.

From the Clock Face screen scroll down until you get to Screen Wake and set it to Auto.  It will then turn on automatically.  If it’s set to Manual, you need to tap it.

Make sure you check that Sleep Mode is off too.

I hope that helps a bit.
