Customer support told me since I bought my Charge 5 on Amazon through an "unauthorized seller" I wasn't eligible for a warranty. My device was brand new at purchase and I'd only had it 7 months.
Mind you, this is after I went through the trouble of handwriting a case number and taking a picture with the product.
With all the devices I see failing here, you guys are going to learn the hard way that good customer service goes a long way.
Each post on here that goes unresolved is lost brand loyalty for potentially hundreds of customers, including myself now.

I just got finished posting the exact same thing. Bought two Charge 5 devices in November, one of them died on Saturday. A quick Google search showed me this was a common problem which does happen but as long as Fitbit honors the warranty, I should be good. Then Fitbit noticed on the Amazon receipt I sent them that the seller was a third party supplier Amazon uses so they will not honor the warranty. I only bought them from Amazon on the suggestion from Fitbit because they were out of stock. They said Amazon was an authorized reseller of their products and the warranty would be good.
I made sure the devices I ordered showed Amazon as the seller and they were definitely brand new unopened boxes. It wasn't until I sent the Amazon receipt to Fitbit that I noticed the seller was listed as someone other than Amazon.
When I called back into Fitbit support, the tech was very apologetic and told me that Fitbit is well aware of what Amazon is doing yet keeps them listed as an authorized reseller. What does that tell you? Fitbit benefits by using companies such as Amazon with deceitful business practices so they don't have to honor the warranty on defective products, especially ones with a high failure rate such as this issue.
Both Amazon and Fitbit will lose all of my business and I've previously ordered from Amazon a lot. No more! I've also bought many Fitbit watches and accessories for myself, wife and friends and family. No more! I will also warn everyone I know about these practices.
I will also shout far and wide from every internet review site I can find about these practices from Fitbit and Amazon. I'm sure there are a ton of consumers just like us that have been hoodwinked. Yea, just a $150 product but that's not the point for me.
Shameful! I'm sure the executives that came up with with scheme to get out of honoring the warranty on their products gave themselves a huge bonus but these practices will eventually catch up with them and they will lose a lot of their customers to Apple or Garmin.
It's a shame. I do like the product but I will not stand to be made fool of.
Fitbit, are you listening? You customer are! Or should I say former customers!

Fitbit Charge 5 was meant to improve my health
But it turned out to be a waste of wealth
The device was broken and I took the blow
Since the customer service was practically a no-show
I'd decided to return it and get my money back
But they refused to do so and gave me some flak
They said I was stuck with it since I bought on Amazon
I felt rage swell up, enough to run a marathon
But then I realized that I could do without
I remembered that fitness is not about
What's on your hand, wrist, or even on your head
It's about a mindset that will never go dead
I thanked the Charge 5 for showing me the light
And I threw it in the trash and said goodnight
