Device turning off and on after update

About a week ago my Charge 5 started acting weird (I don’t remember specifics). My phone showed that Fitbit needed an update so I updated the software.

Since then, my watch cycles from displaying the watch/time screen to turning off 3-7 seconds then displaying the Fitbit icon and cycling through that until it runs out of battery. 

it stopped tracking HR & steps (I’m told by Fitbit staff this is because it’s turning in and off and it won’t track anything that way).

I have tried restarting my phone, turning of Bluetooth, unpairing the watch and then pairing it, restarting the watch via pressing button on charger, via connecting and in connecting charger, and letting it run out of battery and recharging it. 
 
Nothing has worked. I tried Fitbit help and they had me restart the watch using the charger button. They did have me change the watch display and that worked?! So it’s able to share info from app to watch that way. Then they told me my warranty was expired and gave me a 35% discount code.

Anyone have success with fixing this problem?
