A pair of Fitbit charge 5s were bought and set up in the US this summer.
We have been Fitbit users for several years since we bought a pair of charge 4s two years ago.
This past summer my wife contracted myocarditis while in the US. Her heart went in to AFib and I bought her the charge 5 with the explicit purpose of adding the ECG app with premium service to help monitor her recovery. We already had good change 4s but figured this upgrade was worth it.
When we arrived back in Taiwan in July (we have lived here for 30 years), we were very disappointed that our ECG app was automatically removed and discovered this app was not available in Taiwan. Those is confusing, since the app need not be medically approved for individual users to check themselves (to keep personal record of AFib patterns) in lieu of professional medical ECG tests. Perhaps the app can be internationally supported, but remove the option to send a medically accurate pdf to a local doctor, avoiding the need for local FDA equivalent approval?
Otherwise, please tell me if and what the plan might be to get this app fully approved in Taiwan?
This country is a wonderful market for your device with a growing health consciousness among local Taiwanese and a big health conscience foreign community in business and teaching. But the average Taiwanese and the teaching foreign community are also very cost conscious, with limited salaries and high costs for housing.
Fitbit can get a bigger market share from the overpriced apple watch, which already has an equivalent ECG app on it's watches in Taiwan, but costs more than 2xs the Fitbit price, and must be synced with iphones, which are 4xs the cost of android cell phones!
Surely this can also be approved for Fitbit's excellent charge 5 device (and the Sense)
Thanks for your R&D to develop this ECG app at a great consumer price point. Hopefully your ECG app, as part of your premium package, can soon include Taiwan! If Hong Kong can get this ECG premium service, surely Taiwan can get in on the service. They respect intellectual property rights here as well.
We certainly plan to remain those who highly recommend Fitbit (5 stars) to all our family and friends, both here in Taiwan and in the USA. Great cost for excellent value! Having the ECG app here in Taiwan would give it 6 stars! Thanks for all you do to encourage good health and human flourishing!
