Extending Fitbit Charge 5 Battery Longevity

Hi folks - I'm hoping to extend the life of my Fitbit battery--which I understand dies around 1-2 years. I wanted to run some battery longevity question by you all. Two questions:

  1. Is it recommended that we keep our Fitbit battery between 30-70% charge to maximize the life of the battery? I've read that lithium battery life lasts longest when not charged to 90%+ or dip below 20%.
  2. Is it not recommended that we charge our Fitbits with portable power banks (especially the fast charge ones) as the power output may adversely impact the battery life?

Hi, @JeffersonL great question!

I can confirm that number one point is roughly correct.  I usually say keep it between 20-80%.  Occasional deep discharges will not do significant harm, but having a battery charging routine of always letting it go to zero or near zero before a recharge will significantly reduce battery life.  Allowing deep discharges will do much more harm than charging it above 80%.

I have never heard the second advice.

I have one Fitbit that is almost 6 years old and another that is about 4 years old and both batteries are still okay - they don’t last the full five days, but they do pretty well.  How you treat your battery makes a BIG difference.

Hey Julia_G - quick question on your Fitbit maintenance--do you ever do a full discharge on your Fitbits periodically or do you just maintain by keeping the charge between 20% - 80%?
