It might be worth checking your Screen Wake setting in case it changed (some of mine did after the update). Scroll down from the Clock Face and you should eventually see a Screen Wake icon (under Water Lock), check that it's set to Auto. If it's set to Manual, you'll have to tap every time. You can just tap it change the setting.
You can also change your display settings by choosing the Settings icon and scrolling through them.
