In 2024, the Fitbit app randomly decreased my year long steps record in October. The daily steps count were decreased by over 30%. I contacted tech support and a few days later, the correct data returned. After a couple of weeks, my daily steps were randomly decreased again. I gave up on getting the data restored.
Now, in August of 2025, the same thing happened again! All my 2025 data randomly decreased. My daily average steps went from 19,250 to about 15,500.
What's going on Fitbit? I'm losing faith and will be moving on to a different app or hardware.

Same thing happened to me today, August 8 2025...
And yes, this is a repeat of what happened in 2024 to several years of step data. Those years (2020 to 2024) were never restored despite my reinstalling the app, rebooting and doing the hard reset in the charger. Not sure what else to do to get 2025 data restored

Thanks for chiming in. Exactly what happened to me. The "error" happened today 8/8/25.

We can't be alone. It has to be yet another system bug affecting many more.

Fitbit support said to wait for the the new version update (4.49). They expect to complete the updates by 8/12. Get back to them if the update does not fix the issue. If it's the same as last year, there's no confidence in any resolution. 😑

Ditto. Also on 8/8. I tried to manually re-add the steps and nada, no mas. And I followed the instructions provided by Google to a T. That was an "adventure" in itself, but of course, was futile. 😠
Waiting for new update hoping it will restore old activity. 🤞 Or, at least, let me edit.
Edited to add: I just updated to v.4.49 and was able to add activity to yesterday's log. Did not let me add steps, just the distance. Then I went to the Activity tab and tried to edit the steps there, but again no option for editing actual step count, so I adjusted the distance and came closer to the steps I actually saw on my Fitbit yesterday, which was closer than what the dashboard was showing me. Imperfect, but I was able to add the approx. 5000 steps that went MIA.

The exact same thing happened to me. My step count for this month has been automatically deducted. It's also been deducted for last month and the month before. It happened last year and I can't get it back. It's a pedometer, so it's unacceptable for it to automatically deduct my step count. In many cases, I check my step count around 11:50 PM, and when I check again just after midnight, the number of steps has dropped to a level I've never seen before. I want my day back!
P.S.
I just updated to app 4.49, but as you all expect, nothing has improved, and my yesterday's data remains unchanged, with 100,000 steps lost. I've experienced this disappointment countless times. Using Fitbit now is disappointing.

I am shocked and happy to report my record for the year returned after the 4.49 update. My 2024 and older data is still off.
I hope everyone had their 2025 restored? The version updated last night, but the corrected data didn't show until about 12+ hours later. I do hope this correction will keep, as last year's correction to the same issue only lasted a couple of weeks.

Ditto. 2025 was restored. I quickly updated a spreadsheet in case the correction disappeared like last year.
Its a shame to have to track totals on Excel, but this is what it has come to...

Speaking of Fitbits and spreadsheets, just a handy-dandy tip. Nine years ago, I started using IFTTT and an "applet" that automatically syncs my Fitbit stats to a Google spreadsheet. When stats disappeared, I checked the spreadsheets and there was all my lost data. They offer a lot of services to integrate with, so might be worth checking out.
iPhones and iPads offer Shortcuts which may also work. I haven't really explored that option yet.
