Fitbit Charge 5 Black Screen

Hello All FitBit Charge 5 Users,

I have read here on FitBit forums, and seen various Youtube videos to troubleshoot the FitBit Charge 5 black screen, but I am having no luck. I am presently deployed overseas, so it's not simple for me to ship my FitBit Charge 5 out for repairs; I still have my device under 1 year warranty since purchase

Following are my FitBit Charge 5 symptoms:
-Black screen

-Does synch with my phone from time to time

-Does show FitBit icon sometimes during firmware update

Troubleshooting I have tried so far:

-reset from USB cable 3 times with 1 second delay

-firmware upgrade

-clean the FitBit terminals

I am running out of ideas. I do not think my FitBit Charge 5 is not communication with my phone or is completely dead; it just gives me black screen for me to not use any of its features.

Please if someone can assist, I shall truly appreciate since I really like my FitBit Charge 5.

Best

Hi,

My device is doing the same thing.  Black screen and I can't reset it with the cord; it does sync. I see green flashing lights when syncing.

However, with mine, I'm 99% sure it died after swimming.

Now I'm going the warranty route.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sounds like you have done everything you can to resolve your problem. There are an enormous number of people posting on this board about early failure of their Charge 5. This cannot be repaired. Contact customer support and request a new device. Don't wait. If you contact them even a day after your warranty runs out, you will not get your replacement.

Thanx. Just did it.

Hi & welcome @MP_FitnessGuy

First of all, thank you for your service.

Sorry to read that you are having issues with your Charge 5. Since you've already tried the recommended troubleshooting steps without success, I recommend that you contact Fitbit Support. They will probably walk you through the same troubleshooting steps you've already done. Once they confirm that none of the troubleshooting steps return your device to normal operation and it's still under warranty, they should send you an offer to replace your tracker/pebble or a discount on a different device. Note: the discount is on the full price, even if it's on sale in the Fitbit store.

This is what I had to do when my original Charge 5 experienced the Black Screen of Death. So far, my replacement Charge 5 is working great.

In case you're wondering if you have to send your defective device back first, you should not have to do that to get your replacement.

Thank you. Got it. Just ordered a new one this morning. Was surprised to see the discount was on the full price [??]
Well, at least it's another year of warranty.
I was very happy with the old one, hope the new one does as well!

Hi,

My wife just had the same problem with her Charge 5 tonight, after swimming.  I've tried all troubleshooting steps. It syncs, vibrates when restarting, green back light turns on, etc., but no fitbit logo, just a black screen. If it's out of warranty, how can you help us?

I got a new device in September as I had the black screen. Now it’s doing the same thing and there is no warranty for the replacement device They sent me a coupon for 35 percent off regular price lol 😂 I’m thinking about cancelling my Fitbit premium and buying an Apple Watch instead . Fitbit seems to produce faulty charge 5’s that don’t last even a year
