Fitbit app not working properly

I received a new fitbit for christmas, and removed my old fitbit and added my new fitbit. Since installing the new Charge 5 I have had nothing but issues with the app. I have deinstalled and reinstalled, cleared the cache, however its still not working. 

1. it hangs for ages when clicking on start up

2. I get the message fitbit is not responding

3. if i click wait, it loads eventually but then crashes on every screen, telling me that fitbit is not responding

 

I really want to use my fitbit and have had a fitbit for years but never experienced app issues like this before. 

 

Also with my fitbit i got 6 months free premium, i am already a premium user, how do i claim this?
