Fitbit says I'm taking giant steps

I'm new to Fitbit and Charge 5, having liberated myself from Garmin Vivosmart 4, which measures several things incorrectly.

On successive days, I did two walks wearing the Charge 5:

* 6.91 km and 7143 steps, with calculated stride length = 97 cm.

* 6.96 km, 7106 steps, 98 cm.

This stride length is way too large for me, and for anyone else not in the NBA. Previously I had measured my stride length at 79 m.

Can anyone explain this?

Fitbit sets a default stride length based on your height, etc.  You can change this by tapping the Days of Exercise tile on phone app Today screen; then tap gear icon near top right.  That is used to calculate distance when you are not using GPS.  I don't know whether your walks distances were measured by GPS or calculated by # of steps times stride length.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thanks. I was using GPS, which is why it's puzzling. I validated the distance with my vehicle.
