I got my Fitbit charge 5 yesterday, but today because of a software update, which was incomplete my screen is frozen and can no longer use the watch. I have tried the different restarting mechanisms and even contacted the customer support, but not able to resolve this issue. Why would a software update, which failed would freeze the screen? Such a waste of 200 dollars and now I am wondering why in the first place I decided to go with this cheap alternative rather than Apple Watch.

Unfortunately failed firmware updates (although unlikely) can cause any device to "brick" (not just Fitbit's). However if this is the case, I think this should definitely be covered under warranty. I would suggest contacting customer support (here) again and discuss which warranty options are available to you.
