Frequent “Couldn’t sync,” delayed sync

I frequently see the message “Couldn’t sync your Charge 5”  or a similar pop up. Pressing “Fix It” resumes sync immediately. Other times, device status shows “Syncing…” for a long time. The Fitbit is usually right next to my phone. 
Charge 5 with iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16.5.1. Bluetooth works fine, always on. Fitbit app 3.86.
