Heart rate monitoring when exercise mode on

Hi can anyone offer some advice, I have a charge 5 and have started running. I need to look at my heart rate to keep it low whilst I’m running. However when I start my watch to the run exercise I then lose the ability to look and check my HR. So I am having to run without mapping/monitoring my run.
Also sometimes my run gets tracked without starting the exercise tracking (which is great) but sometimes not.
Any ideas?
Hope this makes sense.

Hello @JayneD43

If you want to monitor your run closely, it’s a good idea to start and finish it from a shortcut on your tracker rather than let it automatically detect it as it can take a while to kick in.

When you’re running, if you tap on the little white arrow at the bottom of the screen you can cycle through the stats that show up as the big number in the middle of the screen.  One of them is heart rate.  I’ve found that if I’m jogging with short sleeves it will stay on that setting, but in the winter it keeps moving to pace, so I have to cycle through the stats again to get it back.

If you don’t want to keep turning your wrist or tapping the screen to check your heart rate, you can set the screen to Always On just when you use Run.

You can do this by selecting Run, then Start, then tapping the white arrow at the bottom of the screen to bring up options. If you keep scrolling up, Always On display is at the end.  You can set it to on if you like.  It will impact your battery but not as much as GPS does.

I hope that helps you a bit.
