I'm on my second day with Charge 5. I've sat on my butt 80% of the day. Did some yard work, walked around the house a bit. No way it was 2.5 miles! Yesterday I actually walked down the street and back to check gps and I totalled half that for the day, pretty much doing similar things.  Can step count be off 2 or 3x?

Hello @tcat007

Bear in mind it’s on your arm, not your leg, so it can often count active arm movements as steps even when you’re not walking.

There are a couple of ways to minimize this.  One is to wear it on your non-dominant hand, as most people tend to move that one less.

The other way, regardless of that is to make sure you’ve set which hand you’re using in the App on your phone. (You may have to switch this when your wife is using it if she wears it differently).

From the Today Screen in the App on your phone, tap your profile picture, then Charge 5. Under the icons it has Wrist.  Tap on that to set it the one you wear it on and sync your Charge 5, just to make sure,

I hope that helps a bit.

Remember steps and mileage, if not using GPS, are based on arm movement.  Some types of yard work can exaggerate step count, for instance raking leaves might give you steps as you move your arm back and forth without taking steps.  Look at your step log and what time of day you got the steps, and try to remember what you were doing then.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Yes, likely arm movement.  Working on getting pool ready for spring.  Is on correct hand in settings. Guess I'm a lot fitter than I thought! 🤣🤣

Funny, I've not walked in 3 days, but app says I've walked 2.5 miles each day.  Is there a way to just use GPS and not arm swings for distance?
