My new Charge dots t track on my treadmill

Just upgraded to Charge 5 and it still doesn’t track on my treadmill. Am guessing as before it won’t track when kayaking as before. Can I return my Fitbit so I can but a tracker that does. It seems the company doesn’t care enough to make it work. Very unhappy and frustrated.

Can you elaborate on "it still doesn’t track on my treadmill"?

Are you using the exercise app or counting on auto-recognition?

Are you holding hand rails?

What exactly doesn't track: steps, calories, distance, active zone minutes, workout sessions?

Do the stats not add to daily total, or just not show in workout summary?

Can you return it? Likely, but depends on where you bought it and how long you have had it.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

My steps on the treadmill are not being tracked. Yes I hold onto the
handrails as instructed by my treadmills owners manual for safety on an Inc
line and a faster speed.

That's the problem @jvhagerman: since your Charge 5 is a wrist based tracker it relies on the movement of the arms to interpret the steps. Because you are holding the handrails there are no steps tracked. To verify the hypothesis you can try to put your sense in your pocket bearing in mind that you will lose HR tracking and the steps might be incorrectly counted since the algorithm is studied for wrist positioning.

Hi @jvhagerman  holding the rail is safer, but the steps aren't being recognized, just like it wouldn't notice your steps if you're pushing a shopping cart or stroller. You can always do like many others - use an extender strap for the ankle or just tuck the Fitbit down your sock while on the treadmill.

I’m having am the same issue as @jvhagermanz. My Fitbit seems to work taking my steps and heart rate all times, except for when I’m on my treadmill. I can confirm that for the majority of my workout, my hands are by my sides as if I were walking normally.

I only use the hand rails on the treadmill to track my heart rate as my FitBit will not accurately track it while im using the treadmill. My theory is that the treadmill hardware is somehow interfering with my FitBit. This worries me since in the winter, treadmill walking comprises the majority of my workouts since I don’t like to exercise in the cold.
