I've been a life-long FitBit user, finally wore-out my original version one which I completely understood & utilized every function. I now have the new Charge 5, which is giving me FITS, pun intended.
1. Do I have to add a "walk" exercise option to the watch, or does the watch just use the auto recognize mode to determine I'm walking for a work-out. I have it in post 15 minute duration. What about other exercise modes like my version 1 had, do these have to be added? If so, how?
2. For notifications, I'm not receiving a buzz indication for a notification. I have to look for new notifications which is not good for exercising. I've followed all suggestions in APP & on-line to set this up, reset everything (super pain) & still no buzzing when a text, phone call, or other notification comes-in.
3. The SLEEP mode. Is this automatic? Do I have to tell the APP that I'm now sleeping? I can't get this to work conveniently. Where can I see results, sometimes it's on the phone other times it's not.
4. Mapping a run or walk...My old FitBit showed this on the APP, I now cannot see a map of the GPS'd route. Will the 5 do this?
Thanks...

@AtlasConatlas Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.
I appreciate the troubleshooting performed prior to posting.
1. The Charge 5 will auto recognize certain workouts, such as walk, run, elliptical and swimming. To start, your tracker recognizes activities at least 15 minutes long, you can always lower it to 10 minutes. Learn more about all the activities list on this article.
2. Let's double check that your notifications are properly set and confirm that DND is turned off, this will ensure that you receive notifications.
3. Your Charge 5 will automatically track your sleep, just wear your tracker to bed. Learn more about it here.
4. Your tracker has dynamic GPS, Built-in GPS and Phone (connected) GPS. To track an exercise with GPS, follow this procedure.
Hope this helps.

Question: the Charge 5 does not have a specific icon selection for "Elliptical", like my Charge 3 did. It says it will auto-recognize when an elliptical is being used, by sensing the repetitive movement of the arm. But not everyone keeps their arm moving for the duration of a workout. I stopped after about 20 minutes, but kept going with only the foot-leg motion for another 15. My Fitbit workout record clearly did not keep recording for long after I stopped my arm motion. So now, it appears that if I want to record my complete elliptical workout without having to keep my arms moving back and forth, I have to select the "Run" icon, then change it to Elliptical in my Fitbit App at the end.
Assuming the above is correct, I wish Fitbit would bring back the "Elliptical" selection icon, rather than relying on the autosense function.

Elaborating on @AtlasConatlas #1, and also addressing @DFR1335 :
See How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?
It shows how to customize the choices in Exercise App on your device; you can choose which 5(?) from choice of 20. Note if your list is full, you will have to delete one before can see other choices. This is totally separate from the auto-recognized activities list, which cannot be adjusted. If you use the Exercise App to record workout, telling it what you are doing, when you start and finish, you are guaranteed the full time will be included in workout regardless of you movements.

Thanks...Finally had Fernando from FitBit reach-out & walk me through each challenge. He agreed the user manual didn't clearly spell-out navigating...Thanks for your response. I still have difficulty moving around screen (sliding up/down, etc.)...

Thanks! Finally figured that out. Didn't realize I had to delete one to add one.
