Short battery life Charge 5

I was happy with the Charge 3 but it died and needed to be replaced.  I use my Fitbit primarily for a watch, step tracking, sleep information, and an alarm.  The last being very important because I work awful hours and the Fitbit alarm doesn't wake up my husband like an alarm clock would,  When the Fitbit died, thankfully I was on vacation, but it still meant that I had to get a new device asap.  The person who tried to help with the Charge 3 recomended the Charge 5 as the closest to matching what I had.

I didn't even get 48 hours out of the battery and I hardly glanced at the thing throughout the day.  In fact, if it weren't for wanting to check the final day's information, the battery probably would have died during the night.  I was at 21% and ended up staying up late to charge the thing so I could sure it would wake me up.  My Charge 3 towards the end of its life typically got charged Monday or Tuesday and Friday.  Even at that, it didn't drain to the low 20% mark.

Problem one is that there are way too many things on the Fitbit that I can't seem to remove - I will NEVER use my Fitbit to make purchases for example.  If I could take that off, it would be one less thing to scroll through and I would think, make the battery last longer.

I took off the "always on".  I set the display to dim.  Not sure what else can be causing the battery to drain so fast.  I am really unhappy with this device and close to sending it back for a refund.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because it I have to lose 1-2 hours every day to charging, it's not really going to do me much good as a watch or a tracker.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I appreciate all this information that you've shared about the inconvenience that you've been having with your Charge 5, @cdcsmith2000

Thank you for all your efforts in troubleshooting this problem with the battery, I'm sorry to see that you're having the same inconvenience. Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps listed here below:

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Try restarting your tracker by connecting it to the charging cable,
  • Open the Fitbit app, pull down on the screen to force a manual sync and monitor its behavior in the next days,
  • Follow the recommendations listed here to improve battery life in general.
  • If you use GPS to track your exercise, use the Phone GPS setting to preserve battery life.

In addition, keep in mind that some features make the battery drain faster than usual:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Using an Sp82 clock face (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).
