Stride length versus GPS distance tracking.

I consistently find Fitbit records that I have walked further than I have. Eg. Today in Hike more it stated I walked 7.55 miles, when I know the distance was in fact 6.2 miles. This appears to be a big issue for Fitbit. But if change Stride Length from its  Automatic setting, could this effectively correct the issue? If so do I need to lengthen my Stride Length in the App or shorten it?? Thanks

@LaurelSayer   Both forms of measurement have their limitations.  Every GPS point is approximate, not pinpoint.  If you are hiking in a wooded area, the tree cover can interfere with GPS accuracy.  On the other hand, a steps x stride distance is accurate with level walking.  You change your stride length when doing up and down hills and managing irregular terrain.  I personally would not change stride length.

I'm retired military.  I know for a fact that I could take the same hike with a small military grade GPS and it won't say that the distance is 6.2 miles.
