Hello @flutterby0112
Fitbit devices combine your basal metabolic rate (BMR)—the rate at which you burn calories at rest to maintain vital body functions (including breathing, blood circulation, and heartbeat)—and your activity data to estimate your calories burned. If your device tracks heart rate, your heart-rate data is also included, especially to estimate calories burned during exercise. The number you see on your Fitbit device is your total calories burned for the day. Your BMR is based on the physical data you entered in to your Fitbit account (height, weight, sex, and age) and accounts for at least half the calories you burn in a day. Because your body burns calories even if you’re asleep or not moving, you see calories burned on your device when you wake up and will notice this number increase throughout the day. 😃 I hope that clarifies things and answered your question

Thanks but the point that only 2800 steps r showing as 511 cals and for Saturday 4500 steps are showing as 700 cals seems kind of unbelievable.
can you shed some light.
FYI, my height is 5-10 and weight is 110 kgs.
i do not see a screenshot option otherwise i would have shared.

Hello again @flutterby0112
Your fitbit measures 2 types of calorie burn: calories burned through exercise and BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just by being alive and in most cases form the majority of our daily calorie burn. Your Calories burned have taken this into effect so it’s more then just steps you’ve taken. You will notice the number change as your day goes on.
Maybe this thread will offer clarification: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/How-do-you-find-your-BMR/td-p/1657470 and this one as well: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Manage-Weight/Calories-burned-way-too-high/td-p/1810243
😉Let me know if this clarifies things

Thanks MegaBite
the explanation is clear to me but if we segregate the daily calories burned without doing anything then they are 1998 cals.
how come only 4792 steps = 3.52 KM & only 1 zone minutes could result in a difference of 800 odd calories
it seems way too much for my understanding.
the 800 cals are in excess of the resting calories burned.

Hello again @flutterby0112
I would suggest restarting your Fitbit tracker if you feel that your calorie burned is not calculating correctly as suggested here by the moderator: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Inspire-Inspire-HR/Active-Minutes-and-Calories-burned-Too-High/m-p/3...
Look here to see how to restart your Charge 5: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186.htm

Hey there
so I have a diet intake app connected with fitbit app and the other app tracks calories burned and steps taken through fitbit which means I get the data only for the active minutes and not the resting BMR.
please note I have not gone for a walk specifically, it is just daily routine stuff I’m doing.
last 3 days are as follows
Monday 2846 steps 510 calories = 0.179 cals/step
Tuesday 4257 steps 832 calories = 0.19 cals/step
Wed 4859 steps 852 calories = 0.175 cals/step
I will keep tracking here and post for the full week.
but these values seem to me to be a high.
I will also try to keep the nike run app running all day from tomorrow for the rest of the week and will compare data.
anyone with any insight to guide.
Tia
