The fitbit step counter, or any wrist-based counter, is inherently inaccurate by design, as is evident by the dozens of posts asking why they're completing 5K marathons in their sleep. The Charge 5 that I just bought is no different. My question is, why can't it just ignore false steps while sleeping? It can clearly tell the timeframe when I'm asleep, what's so difficult about a simple "if-then" line of code where IF I'm sleeping then don't log steps? This is more of a vent then a question since I know there isn't a fix for this, I just wish I didn't have to subtract 1500-3000 fake steps because of sleeping or working on a computer just to have some idea of my actual step count.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @SunsetRunner.
Thank you for sharing all your feedback and that you've been experiencing this inconvenience with your Charge 5.
If you're moving too much while you're sleeping, your Charge 5 may think that you're awake and will try to give you credit for those steps. However, it's odd that you received that amount of steps (1500-3000 fake steps). Could you please confirm if you were indeed wearing your Charge 5 while you were asleep? Was there a fan or anything that may have been buzzing or vibrating next to you?
While it's not possible to delete the steps that have been synced to your account, you can log a non-step-based activity such as driving to override those steps. I'd also recommend you to complete a restart on your Charge 5 to refresh its performance and monitor its behavior in the next days.
I'll be around.
