It's become a joke that my husband wants a FitBit so he, too, can get steps counted while he's sleeping, sitting, or otherwise not moving. Last night my few months old Charge 5 logged 18,000+ steps at midnight. Some days I will get a big chunk of steps while I'm at my desk working. Many days I'll go into the app and the step count will flicker back and forth between one more realistic number (let's say 5,000) and one nearly impossible number (60,000+). It's even more frustrating that these things happen inconsistently so I can't pinpoint a pattern. Do I need to factory reset? Is there something wrong with the GPS or some chip inside it? This thing is mostly just a watch now that I can't trust the fitness data I get from it. Please help!

If you have MobileTrack set up as a device, try removing it. Please let me know if it is there as a device, and if so, if removing it makes a difference.

It was there, and I've just removed it. I'll keep an eye out to see if this fixes things and will report back if it does not! Does this mean it is no longer paired with my phone? What exactly did I unpair by making this change? Thanks for the help!

It is still paired with phone. That is just to use phone's step-counting ability if not wearing Fitbit. To be honest, I not sure how it works, and which phones it actually works with, or how or if it knows when to switch between which devices. It seems to me lots if people have this as a device without even ever knowingly having added it, and it might somehow be connected to getting thousands of steps suddenly added for no reason. But feel free to add it back as a device if you feel having removed it is hurting something.
